Below is a copy of the public notice from the City of Red Oak regarding the water main break (http://redoaktx.org) [Original Public Notice]:
“Due to a major water main break that occurred last night (May 24, 2011) on a 14” waterline located adjacent to the Interstate Highway 35E/Southbound Frontage Road (which resulted in the City of Red Oak’s water system pressure going below 20 psi for all water customers located west of Interstate Highway 35E), the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required our water system (City of Red Oak, Public Water System #0700031, Ellis County, TX) to notify City of Red Oak water customers west of Interstate Highway 35E of the need to boil their water prior to consumption.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two (2) minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the City of Red Oak’s Department of Public Works will notify you that the water is safe for consumption. Instructions to discontinue will be issued in the same manner as this notice.
If you have any questions concerning this matter, you may contact City of Red Oak Director of Public Works Charles Brewer at (972) 576-3414 or (214) 498-3803.”
